Dear Norma,

A bed of ice and frozen ground - that's what dogs in Canada's North are facing as winter's harshest weather approaches.

Help us build kennels to keep these dogs safe this winter.

I just looked at the forecast for the next week in Northern Canada and the temperature is well below freezing. The calendar might not say winter yet, but frigid weather has arrived and it won't get warmer for months.

We're racing to build kennels for these dogs who are set to spend the frigid Canadian winter outside. We'll help build the kennels for communities where we provide free wellness clinics for dogs.

Many community members simply can't afford to build or buy their own kennels. They need your help.

Imagine these dogs - some of them just puppies - exposed to the bitter cold and wind, shivering as they try to sleep on the ice and frozen snow. Some may freeze to death if we don't build these kennels, and build them quickly.

I know that the thought of these dogs suffering during the winter disturbs you as much as it disturbs me. You've spoken up for animals in the past, and your support has made a difference. Now I'm asking if you can help animals in a different way. By joining IFAW's dedicated team of donors, you can help protect dogs during the freezing Canadian winter.

Community volunteers have pledged to build the kennels, with the help of local school children.

The kennels we'll build will be made of thick wood to help insulate the dogs from the cold. They'll have flap doors to help reduce wind chill. Rubber floors will protect the dogs from the frozen ground. It will take about £60 in materials to build each kennel.

Without these winter shelters, some of the dogs won't survive.

You can help save these dogs.

Your gift will help us purchase the materials to buy the kennels. It also will help our Northern Dogs programme continue to provide lifesaving care to the dogs in these disadvantaged communities, and to help other animals in need.

Any amount you can spare will be greatly appreciated.

But please hurry. Snow is already on the ground and frigid temperatures have arrived. Will you please help give these dogs a warm winter by giving a gift today?

Thank you for all you do for animals.
